Things I Learned from Joe Lieberman

Bi-partisanship is the holy grail of politics.

Not only has Lieberman endorsed Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine.) -- one of Democrats' biggest targets in the 2008 cycle -- but he's planning to co-host a fundraiser for her on June 21 in Washington, D.C.

The event, which will be held in a Capitol Hill location still to be determined, will feature Lieberman and Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) -- a very rare bipartisan fundraiser. Attendees are being asked to raise $3,000; $2,000 would come in the form of a political action committee donation while the other $1,000 would be a personal contribution, according to an electronic invite for the fundraiser obtained today by The Fix.

"Let's try to make this a bi-partisan tour de force," reads the invite.

If by bi-partisan you mean "with the continued exclusion of Democrats," then ok, I can buy that. Are we all clear whose side Joe is on?

Minor nit - the Fix labels Lieberman (D-CT) instead of his registered affiliation (I-CT) or his actual one (R-CT).

Joe will let nothing get in his way once he has bent over and is ready to take it.

And I say to them if you are genuinely against the war, then you ought to be fighting to cut the funding off instead of entering into a kind of harassment that’s involved now.

An explosion rocked the building which houses the Iraqi parliament inside
Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone, a US military spokesman confirmed.

But according to John McCain, a market in Baghdad is as safe as one in Indiana and there is much reason to remain optimistic about the situation in Iraq. Just give it another six months, we will make more progress. Joe Lieberman also agrees that there is reason to be optimistic. We have a plan, and yes, it is a good plan.

Can we please cut the crap already? How many more people need to die because these children cannot admit that they have been wrong about everything all the time.

believe her visit to Syria was a mistake, that it was bad for the United States
of America and good for the Syrians. And I say this because we’re in a war.

Six U.S. soldiers were killed in roadside bombings southwest of Baghdad over the weekend, marking one of the deadliest periods for American troops since a new security crackdown was launched in the Iraqi capital.

The U.S. military said in a statement on Sunday that two soldiers were killed by an explosion during a patrol on Saturday. Four more were killed when another roadside bomb detonated on Sunday near a unit responding to the first attack.

But new data show the extent of the help he got from big GOP donors in the last
weeks of his 2006 campaign, as they poured more than $1.5 million into his final
pre-election push - with subtle but unmistakable help from the White House.
The information was compiled by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive
Politics. Its data are the first detailed look at the sources and amounts of GOP
money that went into the Lieberman campaign.

Not that this is news to anyone who followed the CT-Sen race. Shame on all the establishment Democrats who did not lift a finger to help Ned Lamont beat this sorry hack out of office.

A double suicide attack on Shiite Muslim pilgrims in the southern city of Hilla killed as many as 77 people and wounded another 170. It was the worst single bombing since Feb.3, when 130 people died in an attack in the Sadriya neighborhood of Baghdad.
The pilgrims were walking to the holy city of Karbala as part of a religious celebration that marks the 40th day after the massacre in the 7th Century of Imam Hussein and his family. Shiite men and women throughout Iraq walk from their homes to Karbala every year to reach the tomb of Imam Hussein, where they believe the severed heads of Hussein and his family are buried.

But we need to not do anything about it so Joe Lieberman can continue to work in peace.

Our Nation's Greatest Threat

The U.S. Senate began debating legislation to bolster America's security on Wednesday with the White House threatening a veto because one part would extend union protection to 45,000 airport workers.

President George W. Bush's administration charged that the Democratic-backed provision to provide workers limited collective bargaining rights would curb needed flexibility at the U.S. Transportation Security Administration and diminish traveler safety. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, a Connecticut independent and a chief sponsor of the overall bill, disagreed. He said he would urge Bush to support the provision as a way to bolster spirits among a largely demoralized workforce.

Bush will veto the 9/11 bill that will implement many of the commission's recommendations because it would allow 45,000 workers to unionize. WTF. How sick does this get. Our country is run by petulant children who throw temper tantrums when they get their two pound chocolate fudge sundae with 3, instead of 4, cherries. Bush does not care about national security or anything besides getting his way all the time. That is a sociopathic quality. Bush is refusing to make things safer for all Americans because 45,000 workers need to unionize. Period, stop. Unionize! I was not aware, but that would mean the end of the world as we know it. Unions are even more evil than terrorists. It is about time the White House rolled out its new product - in the spring, nonetheless - a new Axis of Evil (tm). This one can include Terrorists, Unions and all People who Disagree with Bush (PDBs).

By the way, Lieberman is about to find out how far his 'working across the aisle' position will get him and how little clout he has. Watch him blame the Democrats.

Department of No-Brainers

Breast cancer studies funded by drug companies are more likely to yield positive findings than those without pharmaceutical industry backing, according to research published on Monday.
A team led by Dr. Jeffrey Peppercorn of the University of North Carolina School of medicine also found industry-backed studies tended to be designed differently than the others, but he said drug companies may simply be backing the least-risky alternatives.

Wow! In other news, Joe Lieberman's reports more likely to show Iraq a success than those without psychotic delusions.

Loserman is at it again. So glad he is no longer a Democrat.

This morning on Fox News, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) echoed the Bush
administration and claimed that people who oppose escalation in Iraq are
emboldening terrorists. “[I]t will discourage our troops, who we’re asking to
carry out this new plan, and it will encourage the enemy,” Lieberman said.

Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS), who announced on Friday he will support Sen. John Warner’s (R-VA) anti-escalation resolution,
pointed out the obvious: “I don’t see this enemy as needing any more emboldening
or getting it from any resolution. They’re emboldened now.”
